Unexpected repairs
Portfolio One EV VSC
A vehicle service contract built for battery-electric vehicles, covering eligible failures of EV components as written in the contract. Coverage runs until a stated odometer reading, such as 100,000 miles.
Electric vehicles have different parts to protect: drive motors, power electronics, onboard charging and thermal systems. Many also keep a separate manufacturer battery warranty that can outlast the basic warranty. An EV service contract is a separate, optional agreement; it is not a manufacturer warranty. Unlike Portfolio One for gas and hybrid vehicles, the EV plan's miles are an odometer reading: a 100,000-mile plan ends when the odometer reaches 100,000.
Coverage basics
What it is for
Eligible repairs after a covered EV component fails during normal use, subject to the contract's terms, exclusions and deductible.
Components to ask about
- Drive motors and reduction gear
- Inverter, converter and other power electronics
- Onboard charger and charge port
- Battery thermal-management components
- Conventional systems such as steering, suspension and climate control
The traction battery
Most EVs carry a manufacturer battery warranty with its own years and miles, and sometimes a capacity threshold. Whether an EV service contract covers the high-voltage battery, and on what terms, is set by the contract — do not assume battery replacement or capacity loss is covered.
Exclusions & limits
Check your contract for:
- Are the traction battery, drive motors, power electronics and charging components covered or excluded?
- Is gradual battery capacity loss or degradation excluded?
- How does the remaining manufacturer battery or EV-component warranty interact with this contract?
- Are charging equipment at home, cables and adapters covered?
- What deductible applies, and are software updates or recalls excluded?
The applicable contract for your state and vehicle controls. You can request it before you choose.
Eligibility & existing coverage
- Eligibility depends on the vehicle's powertrain, battery configuration, year and mileage.
- Your Factory coverage section shows any EV-battery coverage on file for this vehicle, labeled as estimated until verified.
- Choosing the EV education view never changes the vehicle you are quoting; the estimate always follows the vehicle's actual powertrain.
How claims work
EV repairs often need a facility qualified for high-voltage work. In general:
- Use a facility able to diagnose and repair high-voltage systems.
- The facility requests authorization from the administrator before repairing.
- Battery and drive-system claims may require diagnostic data or capacity readings; keep your service records.
- You pay the deductible and anything not covered; the contract says whether the shop is paid directly or you are reimbursed.

Frequently asked questions
Is the battery covered?
That depends on the contract and on any remaining manufacturer battery warranty. Ask specifically about the traction battery, about capacity loss, and about how manufacturer coverage interacts.
Does EV coverage apply to hybrids?
No. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are offered Portfolio One, with miles added to the odometer at purchase. The EV plan is for battery-electric vehicles only.
What about charging problems?
Onboard charging components may be covered; home charging equipment usually is not part of a vehicle service contract. Confirm in the contract.
