Dents & dings

Dent Protect

Paintless dent repair for eligible dents and dings that can be fixed without repainting.

Small dents from door dings, shopping carts or minor impacts are common. Paintless dent repair (PDR) massages the metal back into shape from behind the panel, without sanding or repainting, when the paint is intact.

Coverage basics

What it is for

Eligible dents and dings that a technician can repair with paintless methods, within the size and location limits the contract sets.

Examples of eligible events

  • A door ding in a parking lot
  • A small dent from a shopping cart
  • A minor crease where the paint is unbroken

How PDR works

A technician reaches behind the panel and gently pushes the dent out. Because the factory paint is not disturbed, the repair is usually quick. Dents with cracked or chipped paint are typically not candidates for PDR.

Exclusions & limits

Check your contract for:

  • Are dents with damaged, cracked or chipped paint excluded?
  • What dent sizes, locations and panel materials (such as aluminum) qualify?
  • Are hail damage and collision damage excluded?
  • Are dents in places a technician cannot reach excluded?
  • Who authorizes the repair, and how is it scheduled?

The applicable contract for your state and vehicle controls. You can request it before you choose.

Eligibility & existing coverage

  • Eligibility depends on the vehicle and state.
  • Panel material and access can determine whether PDR is possible.

How claims work

In general:

  1. Request service through the contract's process before any repair begins.
  2. A technician assesses whether the dent qualifies for paintless repair.
  3. Eligible repairs are scheduled under the contract; anything outside it is your responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

What is paintless dent repair?

A method of removing dents by reshaping the metal from behind the panel without repainting. It works when the paint is intact and the dent is accessible.

Is hail damage covered?

Hail is often excluded or limited because it is typically an insurance matter. Check the contract.

What if the paint is chipped?

Dents with broken paint usually need conventional body work, which is generally outside paintless dent coverage.
